Remote and stunning – exactly what I wanted
Manaslu Circuit is less crowded than Annapurna and that’s exactly why I chose it. The restricted area permit adds to the adventure feel. Larkya La Pass crossing was demanding but the turquoise lakes and massive peaks made every step worth it. Went in September – perfect weather and clear skies. Teahouses were simpler than other routes but staff was wonderful. Saw far fewer tourists which made the experience feel more authentic. Need good fitness level for this one.
Good trek but had some challenges
Langtang Valley trek was beautiful but affected by 2015 earthquake reconstruction. Trail conditions varied – some sections still being rebuilt. The valley views and Kyanjin Gompa were highlights. Weather in monsoon season (July) meant lots of leeches and rain. Teahouses were basic but adequate. Would recommend going in autumn or spring instead. Local Tamang culture was fascinating and people were incredibly resilient and welcoming despite past hardships.
Perfect introduction to Himalayan trekking
Poon Hill trek was ideal for my first time in Nepal. Moderate difficulty, stunning rhododendron forests in full bloom during April, and incredible panoramic views from Poon Hill viewpoint. Saw Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges clearly. The villages of Ghorepani and Ghandruk offered authentic cultural experiences. Great food at the lodges and friendly locals everywhere. Did it in 4 days but wish I had taken 5 to enjoy more leisurely.
Challenging but rewarding experience
The Annapurna Circuit lived up to its reputation. Crossing Thorong La Pass at 5,416m was tough but manageable with good preparation. The diverse landscapes from subtropical forests to high desert were amazing. Only issue was some teahouses were quite basic after Manang. Weather in March was unpredictable – had snow at the pass. Pack warm clothes and good boots. The hot springs at Tatopani were a perfect way to end the trek.
